Stephen Shaw CBE

Stephen Shaw was appointed as the Prisons Ombudsman in October 1999 in succession to Sir Peter Woodhead. On 1 September 2001, he became the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman for England and Wales following the setting up of the National Probation Service.

To assess the eligibility of complaints when they first arrive in the office. The team acknowledges the complaint, decides whether it is eligible and notifies the complainant. Ineligible complaints are closed and eligible complaints are passed on to investigators.
